Goodbye Beijing

We have to start this post with a big thank you to Auntie Amber. Amber was nice enough to come over and watch Emery for an entire day giving Tracy time to do errands around the house and all over town. You're so sweet Amber! (I also apologize that Emery felt the need to show off your cleavage to the world. She's still learning.)

Here's our little butterball getting wrapped up and swaddled. For those of you who suggested the miracle blanket, you were right on. I had reservations of using a "straight jacket" on my daughter--I thought it was akin to making her serve time in "the whole"--but man does that thing work. I'm determined to get video of the process of swaddling her for one of these next posts...
Auntie Kelly--yes, Emery does seem to have an unlimited supply of Aunts and Uncles-- visited from Sacramento and got to say hello to Em. Usually you're entitled to a few minutes of hello time before we put you to work, as Kelly found out... "Kelly, my dad taught me that when your enemy has underestimated you and turns their head, THAT'S when you go for the jugular. Blppppphhh."

Emery has taking to watching Hannah Montana already. It gives Mom and Dad at least a half hour of quiet. We've been encouraging watching tv as much as possible. (You can breathe easy Grandparents, I'm only kidding...about Hannah Montana. She already hates that bitch.)
Although the image is a little grainey, I just had to laugh seeing how chubby our little girl is in this picture. When your little one is born preemie and barely feeding, you realize that Baby fat rocks.
Another big thank you to Auntie Lisa and Jen, as they babysat for a few hours this last weekend. Tracy, Kelly and I were able to go to the races for a few races as the girls pulled double duty with Emery and Liam. We thought we'd dress Em up with a hat, as is all the fashion at the races, but it was a little too big for her.

Still tiny hands in mom's big hands...
A little "tummy time"...

Em sleeps in a bassinet next to our bed. It's nice that she's so close in the middle of the night we can check on her with ease. In this case, I was about to go to work when I noticed Mom consoling Em so well that they both fell asleep.

As the Olympics finish up, I'll have fond memories of the Beijing games. Not for the amazing performance by Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt, nor USA basketball. I'll have fond memories of turning on the tv for a 4am feed and watching live women's table tennis half way across the world. When I think of these games in the future, sure, the athletes will come to mind. But I suspect that the more vivid memories will be of the early weeks with my daughter and the constant companion of the olympics when it seemed that no one else in the world was awake but the two of us...
